We are ‘Garland
- Fine’, two strong voices who are also fine instrumentalists. We play
and sing music that is enjoyable, stirring and beautiful.
Carole Garland, well
known in Australia and the UK for her
powerful Alto voice and her magnificent concertina playing, is joined by
Michael Fine, excellent finger style guitarist and singer, with his own unique
style and charm.
Together, we are a musical duo with a strong folk heritage,
based on Border Ballads (from the Scottish/England border region), Tyneside
classics, and great Australian and international folk classics, and even a
couple of self penned masterpieces. Possibly their greatest strength lies in
the match of voices which makes harmony work a delight for this duo.
Garland - Fine was formed in late 2013 when Carole, currently bookings and publicity officer for the Newcastle and Hunter Valley Folk Club, teamed up with Michael, president of The Troubadour Folk and Acoustic Music Club, in Woy Woy.
They decided that all work and no play wasn’t an option!
They each have vast repertoires of songs and tunes, and feel it is time to let a few of them out of the cupboard.
Carole plays a Morse English Concertina, and Michael plays a steel strung Martin guitar. Both are vocalists, who enjoy involving the audience in choruses, stories and footstomping tunes.
